2015 Day 5: Life Interrupted-Part II

On this day a year ago, our family life was changed.  A LOT.  FOR THE BETTER! On this day last year, our children and grandchildren gave us a precious gift—Ozzie.

We had lost our last dog a few months earlier and both my husband and I were surprised at the empty hole that we felt.  We had rescued two puppies 13 years ago.  We found these two cuties on our driveway having been dumped by some person.  And we took them home and named them Mac and Millie.  Mac had died the year before and Millie died in April.  I had been looking around for a dog.  I looked at breeders as well as rescues but had not found  “the one”.

Meanwhile, unknown to either of us, our children were searching and with the help of our grandchildren found the most adorable mini Golden Doodle.  They looked at many puppies before finding T.H.E. O.N.E.   They debated the name and ended up with Ozzie–as in the 1950’s TV series Ozzie and Harriet.

And then they surprised us with him.

From the start, he was A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E!!!  He was fluffy and sweet and loved to cuddle up and lay beside us.  The other thing that was terrific about Ozzie is that our children had arranged for him to spend two weeks with a dog trainer before we saw him.  So he came with skills!

Ozzie has now passed the one year old mark.  He is even cuter today! He follows me everywhere.  He sits outside the shower and waits for me to get out. He goes with me to the bathroom. He cocks his head when I talk to him and soon he will probably answer me!  He loves to lay beside me or my husband on the sofa or in a chair. He has NO idea that he is probably too big for that.

He is the first dog we have ever had that loves to sleep on the bed when I am reading.

He rides in the car with us.  He goes out to eat with us because we have a ton of restaurants in our town that have sidewalk seating. So everyone takes their dogs with them.

Ozzie has two “cousins”.  One is Zoe- a Snoodle (nearest the stove)and the other is Tilly-another mini Golden Doodle (in the middle).

So this “interruption” in our life has been glorious.  Ozzie-you are the best!

Day 2: Life Interrupted

Sometimes you make plans that are interrupted. For example, I had this terrific post for today that I threw out to talk about life interrupted. I have always been an animal lover and we have had various pets over the course of our marriage. They have always been great additions to our family. Well, this year, our 12 year old pooch-Millie-died in April. She was a terrific pooch. We had found her and her brother-Mac-in our driveway when they were puppies. When you live in the country on a gravel road, some folks think it is an invitation to drop off things they don’t want. Well some person dropped off these two puppies and we took them home. They were great dogs. Mac died in 2013 and then we lost Millie. So we have been dogless for a few months. We keep our grand dog, Zoe, most afternoons and she is awesome. She is a snoodle. But I really wanted one of our own.

Today we went to the dog gym with Zoe and our daughter to work on a few things. And to our surprise, the training was a sham. Our daughter, our daughter-in-law and two of our grandchildren came in with the most adorable puppy. SURPRISE!

So we have a new member of our family. His name is Ozzie and he is a Golden Doodle. He is 10 weeks old and full of vim and vigor. He is a great kisser and has already captured our hearts. So tonight, we will practice our getting up every three hours to take the dog out skills. But that is ok because we can take a long nap together tomorrow afternoon!
